Rating this solely on their donuts because the "real food" I did try I thought was awful - but man oh man their donuts are to die for. I'll say it, behind Spaulding I think they're the best in Lexington!
They have some great summer specials right now and I do hope to try some and give it another chance! -

Truly the best bakery in the country. What makes Magee's donuts special is the fudge. They dip the doughnuts in it by hand - compared to other places who pour a thin layer on. The fudge Magee's hand dips their doughnuts in is really good on it's own, then when it's combined with their great doughnut makes a magical combination.
They also sell food, which is also good and they have great friendly service, and great coffee. -

I had heard about Magee's before. It seemed like they had some type of cult following. People would say that they went here every Sunday before church or that they would always get their donuts from here. But I just kept driving by. It was never a good time to stop. Then someone gave me a gift card, and when I have a gift card, I absolutely have to use it. I had no idea it was such a great gift. I'd been missing this gem for all these years.
Let me start out by saying that I don't like chocolate covered glazed donuts. There is just something about the chocolate that is used that ruins a perfectly good glazed donut. Then I took a bite of one at Magee's and realized that I had never had a chocolate covered glazed donut before. Wow. Totally different product with the chocolate they use here. Maybe the best donut...ever. You've got to try it. Seriously. I went up to the counter and personally thanked everyone. It's that good. The guy at the counter said, "We make Spalding's look like Little Debbie snack cakes." I love the attitude. And they back it up, y'all.
My daughter tried the chicken biscuit with queso. That combination's a winner. The chicken is tender and juicy and the queso just complements it so well. I ordered the Magee club. When I ordered it I was warned, "It's big. Really big." I was glad for the tip, as I shared it. It's more than enough for two people. But listen to me ~ that is one of the best clubs in the city. Hands down. Get it with white bread. That, to me, sounded like a strange recommendation from the employees but man, it worked on that club. In the modern day, no one goes with white bread. Seems so bland, right? Wrong. It's fantastic.
I left actually feeling kinda bad. Feeling bad for all those times I drove past this place and went somewhere inferior. Don't be like the old me. Be like the new, enlightened me. -

This place is donut heaven, quite a few of their donuts come with a delicious glaze like the creme donuts, and the chocolate fudge donuts.
There cinnamon rolls are really out of this world. This donut shop was packed when I visited on 10/9. -

My wife and kids loved this place. We sat down for a full breakfast (omelet, breakfast sandwich etc). The donuts and pastry selection is excellent. They truly go above and beyond to make the best versions of their food. Donuts and pastries are large! Atmosphere was great and the staff was exceptional for how busy they are!! Would recommend going out of your way to come here!
